Our school follows the National curriculum (2014) and this is arranged over a two year rolling cycle in Key Stage 1, and a four year rolling cycle in Key Stage Two. Children in Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We use a combination of Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds to introduce letter sounds and spellings. We also use a range of books to support development of reading skills, these include books from Bug Club, Rapid Readers, Story worlds and Oxford Reading Tree, as well as individual titles from many other publishers.
We endeavour to make our lessons stimulating and exciting and hope that our children will feel a great sense of ownership over their work. We love it when children are keen to pursue their learning in their own time and reach their full potential.
We are part of a CLP project to develop Language for Learning so that children encounter the same words throughout the schools in the area, from Infant to Secondary age groups.
We use Loops for Learning to plan our topics. This is a methodology where staff plan the end point of the topic – a display, presentation, web -page – and then, with the children, plan how to get there. This means that children really understand why they are learning and how it contributes to the end goal. See the class pages on the Documents tabs to see some of the results of this method.
We developed our rolling plans with the assistance of the children and parents during 2014 and the plans are to be found below. We also attach the Maths Calculation strategies that your child might expect to encounter as s/he progresses through our school. Please ask us if anything does not seem very clear. You will also find topic plans on the individual class pages.
