As was announced at the evening performance of the Nativity – which was rather excellent – we have some big news that we have been waiting to announce for some time. We have successfully bid for lottery funding to help us develop a Sensory Garden along the side of the Pre-school building and outdoor area. This will be for all children to use, and other community groups as well. We have been allocated nearly £10 000, but most of this will be used up providing the fencing and paths for the area. We will be relying upon parent help to turn this into something truly memorable for our children.
Big news is coming next week. We’ve been waiting to tell you this for a while, but can’t quite yet….the antici…..pation is killing us!
We had a great time at the Dick Whittington Pantomime yesterday with our friends from Croscombe.
The schools will be working together again in the New Year.
Thanks to all who helped at the Craft Fair and the band made of children, ex-pupils and parents. Everyone thought you were great!
Don’t forget the disco this Friday – another evening of mayhem from Crazy Pete.
There is a Victorian Craft evening with music at the Knatchbull on Saturday. The PTA will be there again – will you?
Thanks to all who attended the Christmas Bingo on Friday. The Hall was packed, the prizes were great and we raised almost £600. Thanks to all of the PTA for helping to create such a successful evening and particularly to Mel Gregory for most of the organisation.
We are entering a very busy period, with Pantomimes, trips, visits and the season of glitter and glue descending upon us. Keep an eye on the calendar to ensure you don’t miss anything.
The collection of the bags for school donations is due this morning. There is a very impressive pile of bin liners, so we are hopeful of raising yet more money. Thanks again for your generosity.
The disruption caused by the drainage and re-surfacing work on the playground should end soon. It has been a great irritation for everyone, but thanks for your patience. The finished result should be fantastic.
Don’t forget the Oaks Class presentation of the “Pizza Aliens” film on Friday afternoon. It promises to be quite… unusual!
The school trip to @Bristol was a huge success yesterday. Thanks to the staff who organised the visit and the adults who accompanied the trip. There were some very tired children at the end of the day!
We have a number of children away with a sickness bug that seems to be doing the rounds. Our best wishes go to all who are currently suffering. Please ensure that children stay at home until they have 48 hours without being sick. We don’t want any more families to go through the unpleasantness.
Thanks to the small, but perfectly formed, group of volunteers who turned out on Saturday to help get the new cover onto the polytunnel. The finished result looks excellent and we also cleared the old outdoor toilet in readiness for its transformation into a Gardening shed. We also got rid of a pile of old rubbish that has been sitting around in the school for some time. Thanks to everyone who gave up part of their weekend to help us improve the school.
The playground is being re-covered just after half term, so this side of the school will have been transformed in a few short weeks.
Coming up on Saturday is our work day. We have poly-tunnel to re-cover and a number of really useful jobs to do. If you can spare an hour or two of your time, we would be very grateful to see you at around 10.00am on 15th October. Bring yourself and a readiness to do anything and we will find a use for you (!). If you have a spade, bring it along as well. We also need some space in large cars or vans to do a tip run with some bulky items that are never going to fit in Mr Heath’s impractical car!
Hallowe’en Family Disco and Party
Don’t forget our family disco on 21st October. Tickets are £1.50. A family ticket for up to 5 is only £5.00. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. There will be prizes for Fancy dress. Those who attended the last disco will tell you how good Pete Dayman Johns is as a DJ. The fun starts at 6.00pm and a splendid time is guaranteed for all!
Members of the school council went to Whitstone last week to take part in a day for councillors from all of the local schools. They helped us look at the effectiveness of our transitional language project and had some very nice biscuits!
We hope that many parents will be able to help us on one our world famous work days. OK – so it’s only the second…but the fame is spreading!
Amongst the jobs lined up for Saturday 15th October are replacing the poly tunnel plastic and a multitude of “little” jobs. Come with a willing heart and a spade and we will find a use for you!
We will be sharing our leavers’ assembly at 1.00pm on our last day of term. Parents are welcome to join us to bid a fond farewell to our leavers and then school will close for the Summer holidays at 1.30pm.
